PROPHECY
Isaiah 53:5-8 (Date 700 BCE/BC)
Messiah is the one whose death would atone for the sins of mankind.
FULFILLMENT
Matthew 27:31, 35 (Date 30-33 CE/AD)
Rabbi Moses the Darshan (the Preacher) (11th cent) wrote: “God hath from the beginning made a covenant with the Messiah and told him, ‘My righteous Messiah, those who are entrusted to you, their sins will bring you into a heavy yoke; and your ears will hear great shame; your mouth will taste bitterness, and your tongue will cleave to the roof of your mouth, and your soul will be weakened in grief and sighing. Are you satisfied with this?’ And he answered, ‘I joyfully accept all these agonies in order that not one of Israel should be lost.’ Immediately, the Messiah accepted all agonies with love, as it is written in Isaiah 53:7, He was oppressed and he was afflicted.”
PROPHECY
Isaiah 7:14 (Date 700 BCE/BC)
Messiah born of a virgin
FULFILLMENT
Matthew 1:18-23 (Date 6-4 BCE/BC)
Cyrus Gordon, a leading Jewish scholar who was a Professor at Dropsie College: “The commonly held view that "virgin" is Christian, whereas "young woman" is Jewish is not quite true. The fact is that the Septuagint, which is the Jewish translation made in pre-Christian Alexandria, takes 'almah’ to mean "virgin" here. “Therefore, the New Testament rendering of 'almah’ as "virgin" for Isaiah 7:14 rests on the older Jewish interpretation, which in turn is now borne out by a text on a clay tablet from Ugarit of around 1400 B.C.) "Almah” in Isaiah 7:14 " Journal of Bible and Religion” 21 (1953), p. 106.
PROPHECY
Micah 5:2 (Date 715 BCE/BC)
Messiah is to come from Bethlehem.
FULFILLMENT
Matthew 2:1-6 (Date 6-4 BCE/BC)
"This prophecy of the Messiah is comparable with the more famous shoot out of the stock of Jesse prophecy in Isaiah 11. To hearten the people in their calamitous plight, Micah foretells the coming of one from Bethlehem (i.e., of the house of David) who, in the strength of the Lord, will restore Israel to their land and rule over them in God's name in abiding peace." The Soncino Press commentary on Micah, as part of The Twelve Prophets volume The Jerusalem Talmud (y. Ber.2.4*) comments, "... King Messiah is born...he is from the royal palace of Bethlehem."
PROPHECY
Psalm 22:14-18 (Date 1000 BCE/BC)
Messiah is crucified by having hands and feet pierced.
FULFILLMENT
Luke 23:33-34 (Date 30-33 CE/AD)
The Septuagint, the oldest existing Jewish translation of the Tanakh, was the first to translate the Hebrew as “they pierced my hands and feet” (using the verb oruxan in Greek), followed by the Syriach Peshitta version two or three centuries later (rendering with baz’u) not only so, but the oldest Hebrew copy of the Psalms we possess (from the Dead Sea Scrolls, dating to the century before Yeshua) reads the verb in this verse as ka’aru (not ka’ari, “like a lion”), a reading also found in about a dozen medieval Masoretic manuscripts—recognized as the authoritative texts in traditional Jewish thought—where instead of ka’ari (found in almost all other Masoretic manuscripts) the texts say either ka’aru or karu. The Dead Sea scrolls agree with the picture of the pierced Messiah in Psalm 22:16.
PROPHECY
Daniel 9:24-26 (Date 539 BCE/BC)
Messiah come to die before the Second Temple destroyed.
JOSEPHUS RECORDS FULLFILLMENT
Josephus “Wars of the Jews” Chapter 6 (Date 70 CE/AD)
"I have examined and searched all the Holy Scriptures and have not found the time for the coming of Messiah clearly fixed, except in the words of Gabriel to the prophet Daniel, which are written in the 9th chapter of the prophecy Daniel." [The Messiah of the Targums, Talmuds and Rabbinical Writers, 1971]. In the Targum of the prophets, in Tractate Megillah 3a, which was composed by Rabbi Jonathan ben Uzziel, we read:" And the (voice from heaven) came forth and exclaimed, who is he that has revealed my secrets to mankind?.. He further sought to reveal by a Targum the inner meaning of the Hagiographa (a portion of scripture which includes Daniel), but a voice from heaven went forth and said, enough! What was the reason?--because the date of the Messiah was foretold in it!"
PROPHECY
Psalm 118:21-24 (Date 1000 BCE/BC)
Messiah rejected by Jewish leaders.
FULFILLMENT
Matthew 21:42 (Date 32 CE/AD)
“And you Bethlehem Ephrathah whence David emanated, as it is stated (1 Sam.17:58). “The son of your bondsman, Jesse the Bethlehemite.” “You should have been the lowest of the clans of Judah because of the stigma of Ruth the Moabitess in you. From you shall emerge for Me the Messiah, son of David, and so the Scripture says (Ps 118:22): “The stone the builders had rejected became a cornerstone.” And his origin is from of old “Before the sun his name is Yinnon” (Ps 72:17) Rashi: Michael Brown Volume 3 p. 39 http://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/16191/jewish/chapter-5.htm
